Keep a moment forever
Hey there! It's been a little bit since I have posted on this website. I finished my trimester of digital photography but I want to continue using this site to share pictures I have taken. For the moment, I do not have access to an image editing software like Photoshop but I am working on that. So, for the time being, I will not be able to edit pictures that go up on this site but that's okay for right now. I got a new camera that is really nice so I am able to take some quality pictures while not being in the class anymore. Here are a few examples. I hope to continue taking pictures and getting better at photography!

This class has been a massive help in my photography skills. Before I took this class, the only pictures I would take were things on my phone of things that I thought were cool looking and some really crap pictures on vacations. I had no idea how to actually think about shutter, aperture, ISO, or composition of a photo was. I walked in on the first day knowing pretty much knowing nothing besides how to press the shutter release button on a camera (I actually didn't even know that it was called a shutter release button). When we did our first composition assignment, I was a wreck. As you can see below. I have improved a lot since then, don't worry. Moving on from just regular pictures, photoshop was a huge challenge for me. The first day we opened photoshop, I almost had a heart attack. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing and I pretty much clung to the given instructions like they were life support. Fortunately, I didn't do too bad but I personally still think it looks like garbage. As you can see, they're not the best. Eventually my Photoshop skills got better as we did more things in the class. Along with my Photoshop skills, my actual photo taking skills improved as well. With each shooting assignments, I familiarized myself with the camera more, took into account, composition techniques, and overall started thinking more about my photography. For my Photoshop skills, I was very fortunate in my improvements. The car retouch assignment was a bit of a terrifying experience. I was introduced to loads of new tools that I had no idea what I was doing with. But, I think I did a pretty good job with that (there is also a separate blog post about the assignment. We also did an assignment where we had to take a picture of the school and add things that wouldn't normally be there (also another blog post about that separately). Closer to the end of the trimester, we did a portrait assignment dealing with lighting and framing, and a multiple me picture. For the multiple me, I had to take multiple pictures in one location and mush them all together in Photoshop to get them all into one image. I'm very happy that I can actually use Photoshop now as opposed to before where I almost died opening it for the first time. Overall, in this class, I have learned so many things. I walked in with barely any knowledge and am leaving with new skills I never thought I would have or didn't know I could have. I am now much prouder of my photography and am trying to convince my mom to let me get Photoshop at home.
This week, I chose black and white since it was one of the only ones I hadn't done that I had an interest in. It was a bit of a challenge because I had to think of things that would look nice in black and white but couldn't go and check what they did look like. I ended up using some older things I had like a rotary phone and my typewriter to give them a even older vibe to them. For editing, I of course converted this image into back and white. I also upped the clarity and contrast little so that the details could be seen better in the absence of color.
In this assignment, we were given the task to take multiple pictures in the same location of yourself or a friend in different poses. We then edited them all together in one image in photoshop.
This week I decided to do still life for my photo assignment as you can see by the title. I had a pretty big setup for getting it all to work out. Under my desk I have a little ledge so I hung one of my mom's black coats up on that and let it drape down to the floor. The coat was actually kept up by a candle that I had since I couldn't find any duct tape or something else to keep it up. I raided my brothers room for cool looking things that I could take pictures of and ended up having a massive pile of stuff to sort through and get shots of. Clean up wasn't very fun since I had things scattered everywhere and I was sore from crouching under my desk with my desk lamp. I didn't do much to edit this besides up the exposure and contrast a little bit so that the details could be seen better.
In this assignment, we were given the task to take portraits of people using two different forms of lighting. Then, edit them into one framed image in photoshop with the skills we have previously learned. We learned two forms of lighting, one in the studio called three-point lighting, and the other outside of the studio called window light. The names are pretty self explanatory.
For this assignment, I went around Milan and found different places that I wouldn't normally go to so I could get some interesting pictures. I probably should have gone out a little earlier because by the time I was actually out, it was pretty cloudy and the weather wasn't the best. I actually didn't edit this photo at all, I really liked the way it looks without editing.
In this assignment, we were given the task of taking a set of pictures then basically mushing them together in Photoshop. I went around school grounds and picked a few locations that I thought would be pretty cool looking. I learned a new technique in Photoshop that I can use later in life if I ever want to take a panoramic picture.
For this photo assignment, I was able to go downtown Ann Arbor with my friend to be able to get some pretty good shots. We couldn't have picked a better day to go since the weather was really nice and the sun was out and shining. Although if I ever did this again, I would have liked to know where I was going a bit better because we almost got lost trying to find something and ended up pulling up Google maps. For editing, I removed a cloud that was on the edge of the frame which I thought was distracting from the beautiful building. I also upped the contrast and clarity a little so that the details could be seen a bit better.
In this assignment, we learned many new photoshop techniques. We were given the task to take a picture of the school and add something that wouldn't normally be there. I chose to make it as if the school was in space and had aliens students.
